Laughing Camel Productions is a music event company; proprietor David Vaughan is a former Gordon’s School boarder back in the 80’s.
Gordon Boys’ School (as then named) was a very different school then to what it is today; it was primarily for service personnel’s sons offering a stable education, as their parents served or moved to various places around the globe. Military style billets were our dormitories; awoken by a bugler with reveille, marching to cookhouse and chapel every day. For Sunday Parades we wore Gordon tartan trews and Glengarry hats, parading behind the Gordon’s pipes and drums. Oh what memories! Now a non-selective state boarding school, Gordon’s School, established in 1885 at the behest of Queen Victoria as Gordon Boys’ Home for orphans, in honour of General Gordon (of Khartoum) has since developed into one of the leading boarding schools in the UK,
Music was a huge influence on the students, albeit one of the only ‘outside world’ media we had at the time. Fond memories of student Punk Band madness, Two Tone and Rocker head to heads and New Wave dancing, triggered David’s thoughts:
To re-live, for a day, some of the music that influenced him whilst at Gordon’s, to attract other past boarders- boys and girls, to come back and meet old friends and take a musical walk down memory lane and of course to have a great family May Bank holiday fun day out!
David approached the school with the idea, who agreed ‘…..Old Skool Fez’tival. was then born……resulting in a line-up that will not only attract friends of Gordon’s School but
‘music connoisseurs’ and the ‘just having a great music day out’ type of people. Laughlin Camel extends this invitation to the general public too, making this a music event to remember !
In memory of General Charles Gordon you are invited to wear the headwear of his choice when he was in the Sudan, the FEZ HAT. These FEZ HATS will be on sale as a raffle ticket you can buy on the day for a great prize and just for Laugh’….ing Camel !
